It was a wild ride for several officers, as three men lead police on a chase through two states! Right now, third suspect is still on the loose. But, two of the men are in custody in Rhode Island.
It all started on Route 290 in Worcester. Massachusetts State Police pulled the driver over and asked him for his license and registration. But he took off, heading south to Route 146. Once in North Smithfield, the situation became more complicated.
The high speed chase went from Worcester, down Route 146, into North Smithfield. It all ended when the driver and 2 passengers abandoned their car near Rainville Avenue. The search, was now on foot.
Only Eyewitness News cameras were rolling when Massachusetts State Police, North Smithfield and Burrillville Police, and K-9 units from Coventry and Providence scoured the wooded area along Victory Highway. A few hours later, the arrests were all caught on tape!
Two of the three male suspects in were handcuffed. The driver, 21-year-old Juan Salas from Providence. And passenger, 21-year-old Gorki Gonzalez of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
The third suspect is still on the run, and has not been identified. Salas and Gonzalez both face a laundry list of charges including obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.

Right after the pursuit our C Troop dispatch contacted Avis and got the renter's info. It didn't take long to get names of the knuckleheads because the renter's daughter took the keys and gave them to her boyfriend, the driver.
Great job by our dispatch, and kudos to the K-9 units who tracked out in the woods for over 3 hours and got 2 out of 3. The driver was ID'd and charged accordingly in Rhode Island and Mass.
