Any video experts out here? I am looking to see what equipment is needed to play back VHS tapes recorded on a multiplex system.
Now I am not looking to enhance any tapes or make stills I just want a way to view the tapes to cue them up for a trip to the REACCT lab in Raynham.
Is there a VCR that does this or is a multiplexer needed in conjunction with the VCR?

Hey Gil, I have alotta expirence with them and you do need the multiplex system to isolate the frame. 99 Percent of the time you can use a standard VCR with the Multiplex system. Its probly easier to just take the tape to a local retail store (Filenes/Macys) and ask them to put the specific camera on one tape.

Just wanted to see if it was an expensive process to setup, we are not looking to open a video lab or anything but would like to be able to view the tapes when we want to.
We have utilized the stores in the past, Seven Eleven and BOBS Store seem to have the best setup in our city.
If you are viewing a tape that was recorded on an 8 camera system utilizing a multiplexer then you would need a multiplexer that can handle 8 cameras to view it correctly or would a 4 camera multiplexer work?
If so any recommendations?

If you mean an 8 camera frame multiplexer, most multiplexers (that ive used) will allow you to add cameras to the screen format, although it will reduce each individual cameras picture size on the screen. I believe the newer systems will allow up to 16 cameras to be viewed simultaniously on the screen. For your uses, you should be able to use just about any VCR that is compatible with a multiplexer, and has adjustable speeds. Like a previous person said, the local businesses are your best bet with this. If you have one near by, try Stop and Shop. Surprisingly enough, most of their bigger stores have some of the most up to date equipment. I used to work for them, and they will be more than happy to help you with your needs. Good luck.
