FALL RIVER - The Flint neighborhood was rocked by violence once again early Saturday morning with the shooting of a man in a County Street apartment.

Gregg Miliote, spokesman for the Bristol County district attorney's office, said police responded to 277 County St. at 2:45 a.m. in response to a shooting at an apartment building.

Miliote identified the victim as a Jerome A. Woodard, 28, of an unknown address. Miliote said Woodard is thought to have spent weekdays in Connecticut working and weekends in Fall River.

No arrest has been made in connection with the homicide.

On Saturday night, police were looking for a man for questioning in connection with the murder.

A broadcast was put out to officers on the street to watch for and stop a black 1999 Honda Prelude with a Massachusetts registration of 79LM62, listed to a resident of 267 County St., Apt. 9.

Police were warned to use caution, as the man, if found, may be "armed and dangerous."

Miliote said Sgt. Michael King from the state police assigned to the district attorney's office is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Fall River Major Crimes Division. Assistant District Attorney Chris Tarrant is the lead prosecutor.

The homicide is the fifth in the city since Jan. 1.

Neighbors living around and in the apartment building said they didn't hear the shooting. Many said they were asleep at the time.

The shooting is the third high-profile violent incident to occur in the Flint in the past three weeks.

An unidentified man was allegedly stabbed April 29 near Lafayette Park, suffering life-threatening injuries. A person has since been arrested and charged in the stabbing and police say the victim is doing better.

That same night, police responded to the St. Michael's Club due to a disturbance.

After talking with the establishment's owner/manager, Jordan Cabral, police arrested Wesley Chapin, a man thought to be affiliated with the Asian Boyz street gang, for allegedly smashing the restaurant's windows and injuring patrons after the owner attempted to remove him from the bar for being intoxicated.

Following the incident, Cabral said his patrons had been terrorized by residents of the two-family home across the street. Those residents have since reportedly been evicted.

Flint Neighborhood Association President Catherine Assad said the recent events should not reflect poorly on the entire Flint community.

Assad said she feels police are doing all they can to help stem violent crime in the neighborhood and that she sees a number of people walking the streets throughout the day enjoying the Flint.

"Do I think things are bad in the Flint?" Assad asked. "No, they are not. There is so much work being done to make the quality of life what it should be here. I have faith in what the police are doing about these incidents."

Assad said she is familiar with the apartment building where the shooting took place, saying the two-building complex containing approximately two dozen apartments is known as a problem.

"I know that particular complex has had a police presence on a number of occasions. It's known as a troublesome spot on County Street," Assad said, adding that she thinks there has "a couple of drug busts" in the complex.

"This is an unfortunate period in the Flint being hit with this crime activity in the last couple of weeks," Assad said. "It's concerning to me, but I'm confident in the police handling the situation."
