NASHUA, N.H. -- Police in Nashua arrested a man Friday and charged him in connection with a string of burglaries over the past few months.
Kevin Greenleaf, 29, was charged with six counts of burglary and two counts of theft. Police said that he broke into schools, homes and businesses since the beginning of the year, stealing thousands of dollars in cash and other items.
The investigation started in early March when Elm Street Middle School and Fairgrounds Middle School were burglarized, police said.
"In March, he broke into two local schools and was able to take some cash that was located in the office of the schools," Lt. Andrew Lavoie said. "He came in through broken windows and climbing up on the roof, things like that."
Lavoie said that a string of residential and business break-ins fit the same pattern as the school burglaries. A convenience store and two day-care centers were burglarized at night by someone entering through broken windows, Lavoie said.
"He broke into the businesses at night, stealing whatever he could -- cash, anything lying around was taken," Lavoie said.
Police have also charged Greenleaf in connection with three daytime residential burglaries in which laptops and jewelry were taken. Police said that in two of the burglaries, more than $1,000 worth of personal property was stolen.
Lavoie said that investigators don't think Greenleaf targeted any place for any particular reason.
"I don't think it's anything other than opportunity, simply opportunity," Lavoie said.
