Fire station robbed while firefighters out on calls
By Jim Patten
Staff Writer

LAWRENCE - Thieves broke into the Bailey Street fire station and stole cash, credit cards and cell phones while firefighters were responding to emergencies.
Firefighters assigned to Engine 9 returned to the station and first found wallets placed in wrong pockets. Further investigation found bank cards, cell phones and some $580 in cash missing.
The thieves gained entry through a kitchen window that had been left open because of the hot weather.
"Unfortunately, sometimes these things do happen," Fire Chief Peter Takvorian said. "We will be looking at ways to make the building more secure."
Officer David Augusta Jr. said the thieves appeared to be particular in what they took because then went into the pockets of each pair of pants and took cash out, then opened wallets and took a bank card out, then put the wallets back.
The kitchen window was broken and on the floor and the window screen frame was found near a Dumpster at 161 Bailey St.
Augusta said it appeared the thieves were not inside very long, but seemed to know exactly where to look in that relatively short time.

Certainly one of scumball offenses that would make me drop what I'm doing and track the shitbag(s) down. I'm sure some of the fine men and women of LPD are already on it.
