Police Say Concord Woman Drove Getaway Car

CONCORD, N.H. -- An arrest warrant was issued Friday for a Concord woman who police said helped an inmate escape from a halfway house this week.

Investigators said they believe Kelly Wein, 33, drove Francis Gay from the Concord area Wednesday night. Gay was staying at the North End Halfway House and did not return from an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, police said.

Gay was serving a sentence of 18 years to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Alfred Cardillo in 1988. Corrections officials said that he was up for parole in June and scheduled to be released in July. He was staying at the halfway house as part of his transition back to society.

Officials said that they believe Wein was driving a 2002 black Honda Civic with New Hampshire plates IPROMIS.

Department of Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons said that Wein is a former inmate of the state prison for women. She was sentenced to two to four years in prison for heroin possession in 2001 and was paroled in 2003.

She returned to prison on a parole violation in 2004 and was returned to parole in March 2005.

Officials said that they don't know how Wein and Gay knew each other. Gay has not been located, and investigators did not say whether they had leads on where the two might be.
