San Diego Harbor Police has got to be one of the best jobs anywhere. I am a San Diego native, and I've dealt with the Harbor PD a few times at work while I lived there. SD harbor police patrol the airport, and all areas in and around SD harbor and the embarcadero parks. They also provide all marine firefighting in and around the harbor. If anyone has been to SD, you know that the harbor is large, and is home to much of the US Navy's pacific fleet. All port/harbor police officers are cross trained and equiped as firefighters. The Harbor Police have their own cruisers, K-9 units, multiple boats, jet skis, dive teams, traffic enforcement units, bike units, detectives, etc. However, I believe first assignments are at the Airport. With all of this said, the job is very hard to get as the openings are few and far between, and competition is stiff. Good luck...

From what I know of them, they are professional but no, they don't handle a lot of police work. Let's face it, not much police work goes on in an airport or harbor?

Of course there's the usual stuff like luggage theft, maybe a domestic or two, parking complaints, traffic stops, suspicious packages, etc, but nothing like working in a metropolitan department. If you're gonna come all the way out here, you might as well go with the "big boys." You have to go the same academy so you might as well some on with us!
