NASHUA, N.H. -- Severine Wamala, 46, former head of the math department at Lowell High School and adviser to the school's chess team, is accused of repeatedly raping the young women while living in Nashua from late 2005 until his arrest last September. The women ranged in age from their teens to their early 20s.Lawyers for a former Massachusetts math teacher accused of raping three young women in New Hampshire have asked a judge to bar police and prosecutors from talking about the case publicly. He faces 34 felony sexual assault charges, each punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, and three separate trials -- one for each alleged victim. Wamala remains jailed on $1 million bail. Meanwhile, Lowell police have said they are investigating whether he also committed sexual assaults when he lived there. Wamala has denied the charges, and his lawyers have filed motions asking a judge to bar prosecutors from using statements Wamala made to police as evidence against him.
