WORCESTER— Three men have been charged with drug and gun offenses noon after state police and members of the Worcester Police Department SWAT team conducted a search of an apartment on Barclay Street and seized crack cocaine and a loaded handgun.
Tyrone Kamal Gamble, 28, of 92 Lovell St., Apt. 1 and brothers Jose Brito, 28, and Richard Brito, 31, both of 35 Barclay St., Apt. 1, were arraigned today in Central District Court on charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition and a drug violation near a school or park. Jose Brito was also charged with possession of a firearm having previously been convicted of a violent crime or serious drug offense.
Armed with a “no knock” warrant, Worcester officers and state police assigned to the office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. searched Apartment 1 at 35 Barclay St. shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday and confiscated 17 plastic bags containing what was believed to be crack cocaine, a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, bullets, shotgun shells, scales and more than $1,800 in cash, according to court records.
Mr. Gamble accompanied officers to the Barclay Street address after a Honda Passport he was driving was stopped by state police on Interstate 190, according to police accounts. Investigators, who had a warrant to search Mr. Gamble and the Barclay Street apartment, had received information from a confidential informant that Mr. Gamble would be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine, according to a statement filed in court by police.
No cocaine was found on Mr. Gamble or in the vehicle. Mr. Gamble was in possession of $433 in cash, two cell phones and a key to the Barclay Street apartment, according to police accounts.
