NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - A Massachusetts state trooper was injured on Route 9 in Northampton Saturday night. The state trooper was trying to pass a car on his way to an emergency call with lights and sirens blaring, when the driver of the SUV driver smashed into the cruiser.

The heavily damaged cruiser was parked by the side of route 9 in the Leeds section of the city when 22News arrived on scene.

The injured trooper Kenneth Harold was treated for assorted bruises at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Northampton Police Sgt. Andrew Trushaw identifies the allegedly drunk driver as 46-year-old William Doppman of Cummington.

State Police Sgt William Blatch told 22News that Doppman failed the sobriety test.

Tpr. Harold is my classmate, glad to hear he is doing ok...Best wishes on a speedy recovery, hopefully the sh*tbird drunk will do some jail time, although in this state I doubt it...

This is like the 2nd trooper involved wreck this week isn't it?

Drunks SUCK! One ruined my record last night of never being involved in a cruiser accident, although mine was relativity minor in nature it still pisses me off. I was even more pissed that the guy wanted to argue whether or not he actually hit me.

Best wishes to Trooper Harold!

I actually saw that on the 22news this morning in springfield. It took awhile to show up on their website. Don't think anyone else covered it.

He'll be not guilty. Defense counsel brought out the fact that during SFST, the Police unit blues were too blinding! Poor innocent lemming......

If it's not a 103 year old that dosent realize why everyone in front of them is pulling over, its a fucking drunk. No real point to obeying the law when the public knows the courts will just hand out CWOF's if you are dressed pretty and talk nice. WTF!!!

Cummington? Is that a real town? Maybe they should pass a referendum to change the name to something better, like, hmm, Jizzville?
