'Boring Bandit' captured after falling out of window
A bank-robber dubbed the 'Boring Bandit' for his uniquely mundane heists has allegedly been captured, in less than boring circumstances.
45-year-old Michael Minahen is suspected of being the Boring Bandit, after police apprehended him when he fell out of a motel window in San Francisco.
Minahen was originally given the Boring Bandit title while committing a string of robberies in 2001 and 2002, for which he was convicted in 2003.
At this time, police commented on the "unremarkable style" of his thieving – based on showing notes to the bank teller - and criticised the crimes for having a "dull methodology".
In the event, Minahen was apprehended on Wednesday for a more recent string of similar robberies. Initially police believed they were investigating a suicide, but on arriving it became apparent that Minahen had merely fallen out of his motel window.
He reportedly had believed that someone was going to break into his room to steal his drugs, and so decided to hide outside the window. He fell, and was still on the ground when police arrived.
'We knew who he was right away,' commented Inspector Dan Gardner of the San Francisco police.
