San Jose police said an officer who was shot Wednesday afternoon was shot by a fellow officer. Officer Gular was shot in the arm, but is expected to recover. Initial reports said the officer was shot by a suspect while the suspect was being taken into custody. The shooting happened after police responded to a call of a suspicious person at 3400 Gemini Lane (map) at 12:58 p.m. Police said they believe the person was responsible for robbing a pizza deliveryman two weeks ago. When officers arrived at the scene they came into contact with three suspects. They immediately called for additional units. Officers said they became involved in an intense fight with the suspects when they attempted to take them into custody. San Jose police said during the fight, one officer accidentally discharged his firearm, striking Gular in the arm. Three people were arrested, according to police. They are all minors. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Detective Sean Pritchard or Detective Sgt. Brian Ferrante 408-277-5283.
