Hey Jane,

I would like to answer your question with the full truth....but I can't. If you are going to Lowell you will soon understand why.

That being said, start getting out on the roads if you haven't been running, it definately will help to get in at least a little bit of running shape.

thanks Bravo.. appreciate it. if its ok can I pm you?

Absolutely absurd the amount of running the Lowell academy does. Running is the most detrimental exercise on the body. I understand the need for endurance training. This can be done with numerous low impact exercise. Walking, biking, swimming and aerobics are all great ways to accomplish the same results.
We are not training marathoners. More time should be spent on sprints and obstacle base courses. Training recruits in the above motioned low impact exercises will also increase the chances that recruits will adopt one of these exercises as a life long routine. As many of us that have been on the job some time know. Most will not run on a regular basis after graduating.

That being said those of you that will be attending Lowell and are not currently avid runners, you should do the following. See and orthopedic doctor prior to your first day. The doctor will analyze you step and stride. In most cases the doctor will recommend a special sneaker or orthotic to be fitted to your sneakers. This can in some cases be costly up front. Custom orthotics can run in the 300-400 range.
Remember put 100% forward in the academy, dont give up, but dont be stupid either. dont push yourself to an injury that will have you being dismissed from the academy. Good luck

Got my Self 5 packs of Gatorades 40 bottles that is from Market Basket and I am running like Dogs are chasing me.

The first day of the academy is definetly the easiest day of all don't sweat it you really don't do much just get your books and they tell you what they expect from you while your there. The second day is when it gets difficult, but not to bad they really don't yell at you very much and it's pretty relaxed besides the running and academics. Good luck

Yeah I think we were out at 2:30 or so the first day - they didn't even make us wear uniforms, just suits. They have 6 months to square you away so the first day is pretty much just paperwork and books. No worries - take care and good luck.

Your Not Suppose To Tell Anyone What Happens On The First Day. That's A Lowell Academy No, No.

Are you kidding me?? To those heading to the academy, do what has been suggested... run, run, and then run some more. Forget the fancy doctors and just use basic health tips to take care of your self. It is what it is, a police academy.... you are in a place that many wish to be.
