Mueller Mets With Local Law Enforcement

BOSTON -- FBI Director Robert Mueller said he pledged his agency's help against gang violence in Massachusetts during a meeting on Friday with the head of the state police.

"To the extent that we can assist state and local law enforcement reduce that homicide rate, my own view is we ought to do whatever we can to do it because of the dramatic impact on a community from violent crime," Mueller told The Boston Globe.

He said he met with Massachusetts State Police Colonel Mark F. Delaney on the second day of a visit to the Boston area in which he also privately addressed a Harvard Business School class
Mueller said Boston FBI officials have been meeting with Police Commissioner Edward Davis and other law enforcement officials about using more federal resources to target gangs and help deal with an increase in murders.

He said the FBI could help gather intelligence on gangs that operate across state and national borders, as well as tracking weapons and working to bring more gang-related cases into federal court.
