(WBZ)TEWKSBURY Police are investigating a bomb threat and the discovery of a device at Tewksbury Memorial High School Friday afternoon.
According to police, a threatening note was found in the boy's locker room around 10:30 a.m. After an investigation, police say the School Threat Assessment Response Team decided not to evacuate the high school.
At 1:30 p.m., a suspicious device was discovered in one of the school's corridors. The bomb squad was called to the scene. They determined the device had been activated and was a chemically reactive device.
The rest of the school was searched by canine units and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Councils. Nothing else was found, police said.
The rest of Friday's activities at Tewksbury Memorial High School were cancelled and officials worked on notifying parents and faculty.
State police are examining and testing the suspicious device at their crime lab, officials said.
According to police, the school should be open on Monday, but there will be an increased police presence.
