James R. Bender was named acting commissioner of the state Department of Correction yesterday after working for the agency for nearly 30 years. Bender, who joined the department as a social worker, has been deputy director since 2003. Bender replaces Kathleen M. Dennehy, who was asked last week to leave the agency. She was appointed commissioner by former governor Mitt Romney in March 2004.

Ever since KD has been in her role, everything has been a blur. lol I can't think of, for the life of me, who was in charge before her. The past 3 years have seem like 10 with her around! Someone please help me out. lol

Maloney , who is now back dooring our group 4 retirement by way of Norfolk County.

in other news................... did anybody sign cards addressed to the governors office ?
the eboard is getting desperate

Dont forget to go to the state house may 8th to show your support for a new contract.

I hope they are not holding signs this early on at the state house for a contract. I know they have been waiting a while since Romney but this guys only been in office four months and has to figure out a screwed up budget. I hope they dont make enemies with this guy also.
By the way I heard the eboard told all the union members that they had all kinds of pull with Patrick and the state house when they ran for re election. If they did why are they having a rally/picket. You guys diserve a raise but the more I see that eboard do ,the worst your situation gets. I seen the add in the paper when they were asking for more money and then on the next page I read about how jobs are down forclosures are on the rise and another page saying the budget is screwed up. Be carefull what dirty laundry you put out to the public when it comes to money because some of the people reading that paper dont even have jobs and are thumbing through to the help wanted section. Another bad move was saying we have the hardest most dangerouse job in law enforcement. I'm sure all the cops want to jump right in and help now. And who the hell admitts there that desperate by putting an add in the paper any how. Then they go to his websight and have there members ask for the money. Patrick will walk all over that eboard now in my opinion. What the hell did you vote them back in for if they cant get you a raise. Wait they never could. I feel bad for my friends that work up there because before you know it counties will be making more base pay for the first time ever. I'm not trying to be negative I just call them as I see them. You guys diserve better. I cant remember the last time a union like spam for instance put an add in the paper asking for a raise. Its an insult to the polititions and it will not help. Can you say mediator.

my guess is all this nonsense with the signs at the state house is grandstanding . the union will try to look like their getting us the best deal , get peanuts and say "well , we really tried ! "
the union backed Murray in the beginning and supposedly one eboard member grew up with him. that was our big "IN"
"dangerous job" is a relative thing. i feel bad for construction workers. more of them get killed than anything else each year. in terms of a shitty job , corrections wins hands down . no smiling little kids or friendly old ladies , just pure negativity.
we still get decent pay , if the state would just leave the benefits alone and give a cost of living increase that would be o.k. by me.
and of course it's not impossible for this crap to piss of the guv-nah and we'll go without a contract for 2 more years.
and if anybodies out of work , send them on down. the DOC is hiring

Was there a positive reaction to the rally? I never heard anything about it after the fact.
Posted by: pahapoika
no press coverage. a picture in the Globe , but no story.
the officers that still support this eboard are hopeful , but unless the governor takes a new liking to us we're dead in the water.
thanks to the other departments that helped out. heard other agencies came for support , wasn't there , but anyone that did come , Thank You.
we can't really bitch , Bristol County and others make far less for doing the same job. doesn't look like DeVille has allot of love for the men in blue

that would make sense , but thought she was getting the "Rufo treatment" as in new Judge

Its time for the D.O.C guys to find another route to get a raise. You guys diserve it big time but I'm telling you from the actions being taken enemies are being made instead of friends. I was told they posted all over his websight asking for a raise. That wont go over to well because it makes him look bad to the public that reads it and he will feel bullied. Not to mention that most people are posting on there to get projects funded to better the community leaving a selfish feel to the posting about a raise. Holding signs is more bullying. You may have gone three years without a raise but it was not under him and he just took over a shity budget and he has only been in for 5 months. Holding signs for more money is not always good in a seemingly bad economy when people are unemployed. I think this aproach could hurt. The best thing they could do is ask and keep asking and pretend to be understanding and the money will come. Dont let them make enemies like they did with Romney. I just give my opinion trying to help, you guys do walk the most dangerouse tiers and I'd like to see you get a raise. But just be carefull because you dont want to waite another 3 years. I heard from one of the guys from the DOC guys that he heard one of the guys that used to be in the union got a county a raise last year so they must have some pull. Good luck.
