The shooter who put slugs into two teenagers on Wayne Street last night stalked his prey before concealing himself in an alley and firing multiple rounds at a group who sat on the front steps of an apartment building, police sources said.
Less than three hours later, around 11:35 p.m. two more people were shot on Wildwood Street in Mattapan when a gunman approached them on foot, fired multiple rounds and fled in a black Jeep, a police source said. Injuries to both were considered life threatening, and homicide was investigating, the source said.
Earlier on Wayne Street in Roxbury a 17-year-old girl was hit in the arm during the 9 p.m. attack that also sent lead shrapnel into leg of a 19-year-old man who was sitting beside her when the gunman opened fire, said police and neighbors.
Both victims were rushed to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
While the combined total of both fatal and non-fatal shootings are down this year compared with the same period in 2006, they are still higher than 2005.
By April 22, 2006, there had been 111 shootings, a 70 percent jump over 2005.
By April 22 of this year there were 78 shootings, a 42 percent decrease over 2006, but still 20 percent higher than 2005, when the city saw 65 shootings by April 20. In 2005, the city’s murder count hit a 10-year high.
