(WBZ) BOSTON A retired baseball scout has reportedly put his Red Sox World Series championship ring up for auction on eBay.

Bidding for the 18-karat white-gold, diamond and ruby encrusted ring has reached $26,000.

According to the Boston Globe, 82-year-old Cucho Rodriguez is selling the ring to help pay for his nursing home costs.

Rodriguez said he hopes to make at least $10,000 by selling another World Series ring he won when he scouted for the Florida Marlins.

now thats a nice ring.

You'd think the club would look out after him though. IMHO.

I'd like to see someone win the bid, pay the money, then tell him to keep the ring...

Now THAT, would be cool!

The Red Sox could well afford to do it.

why would a baseball team employ a 79 year old scout?

I actually surprised the Sox aren't saying something about it. I know for a fact that for all three Pats superbowl rings, everyone who received one had to sign a contract that forbids them from selling/pawning the rings for profit.

He is not selling it for profit, it's to pay bills so he can live.
The Sox can spend millions on players they should take care of one of their own.

I'm not going to disagree with you on the fact that either MLB, the Sox, or any other organization that he scouted for should take care of him.

What I'm saying is I'm surprised that the Sox aren't forbiding the Sale on Ebay, profit or just to pay the bills.
