Chicopee Teenager Shot in Groin Loses Leg

CHICOPEE, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) According to Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette, a Chicopee teenager shot in the groin early Sunday by someone who knocked on his parents' front door, had his leg amputated.

Andrew Iwanicki had to have his leg amputated because he lost so much blood, and he continues to have other surgeries.

Doctors said it is a miracle he survived at all.

Iwanicki got off probation last June for his involvement in the 2004 killing a former college football star--a man suspected of being involved with drugs.

Their father, Stanley Iwanicki, is Chicopee's long time city assessor.

Mayor Bissonnette added that Chicopee police are following several leads in the case and are working with the state police.
