WOONSOCKET, R.I. --A Woonsocket mom is cleared of charges that she pushed and struck her 14-year-old niece during a fight with her daughter.
Robin Sevigny was found NOT guilty of assault and battery by a Providence District Court judge yesterday after three hours of testimony.
Her lawyer says she is "relieved."
Sevigny testified in her own defense that she just tried to break up the fight between her daughter and her cousin. Police say the girls had a dispute over a boy and that Sevigny intervened during the February second incident at a bus stop.
The judge ruled that there was not enough evidence to convict.
The 36-year-old mom and wife of a retired Woonsocket police juvenile detective faced up to a year behind bars if convicted of the misdemeanor charge.
