FALL RIVER - Police arrested two 18-year-old men and took an illegal handgun off the streets after several shots were fired in the Flint Friday night.

There were no reported injuries.

Andre R. Brewer of 99 Harrison St. and Marc G. Durand of 404 Jefferson St. are each charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license, possessing a firearm in commission of a felony, disturbing the peace while armed, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, wanton destruction of property more than $250 and possession of marijuana.

Brewer also was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants.

Lt. Wayne Furtado said police received several calls of "shots fired" shortly before 10 p.m.

Responding officers found evidence of gunfire at the scene, including at least eight spent cartridge shell casings.

"A followup investigation took us to 99 Harrison St., where the two suspects were found in a first-floor apartment," Furtado said.

Marijuana was found in plain view in the apartment, he added.

After Uniform Division officers secured a search warrant, Furtado continued, they executed it and found "ammunition inside the first-floor apartment that was consistent with the spent shell casings found at the scene."

They also recovered a .32-caliber Fabrique Nationale semiautomatic handgun from a vacant second-floor apartment.

Furtado said the incident is being investigated and police are asking if anyone has information about the shooting to call them.

"We don't have any victims," he added, referring to persons allegedly shot at. It is not believed anyone was shot.

"There was no blood evidence," he noted.

"We're still investigating the origin of the incident. Witnesses said the males involved in the gun play ran into 99 Harrison St. No one is coming forward about the second half of this," he said.

Furtado commended police for their work on the case, adding, "Most importantly, they got that handgun off the street."
