Boston and transit police made an arrest yesterday worthy of a Hollywood movie, when officers swarmed a gunman as he leaned out of a car’s window and took dead aim at a crowd of youths outside the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, sources and police said. Tipped off to possible trouble by a stand-up citizen, officers were working crowd control in the area about 3 p.m. as a dance competition was wrapping up, a police source said. “Officers saw the car pull up and saw the suspect brandish a weapon, and an MBTA officer went out in front of the car and drew down on him,” the source said. “It was a bit of a standoff for a couple of seconds.” Investigators believe the gunman was about to fire into the crowd when the eagle-eyed cop intervened. Boston police rushed the car, arresting three teens and recovering two handguns. Police identified the alleged gunman as Dominique Hardmon, 18, of Dorchester. He was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. The other two arrested were 16-year-old boys from Dorchester. Both were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. As some 3,000 people exited the competition after the bust, police called in reinforcements for crowd control. “With the size of the crowd that was leaving, this could have been a lot worse,” said one police source.
