GAHANNA, Ohio — School officials locked down Gahanna Lincoln High School yesterday morning after an 18-year-old student came into the school carrying knives and making vague threats, authorities said.
Officers assigned to the school used a Taser to subdue Jordan L. Price, of 504 Rocky Fork Blvd., at 9:43 a.m.
"They yelled a couple of times for him to drop the knives; he was not complying," said Gahanna Police Lt. Daniel Williams.
Price eventually dropped a fillet knife with a 6-inch blade and two knives with 4-inch blades that were taped together. He was immediately arrested.
About two dozen officers were in the school within a minute of a 911 call, Williams said. Gahanna police headquarters is only a few hundred yards from the high school.
Police and school officials locked down the high school for about 35 minutes, until they were satisfied that Price was alone.
Price is scheduled for an initial court appearance today. He is charged with inducing panic and carrying a concealed weapon on school property, both fifth-degree felonies.
Also yesterday, Reynoldsburg High School was locked down for about two hours. Officials there had received word from police that a person who lives near the school had e-mailed the district and 41 other school districts with what could be construed as a threat, said Assistant Superintendent Steve Dackin.
"At that time, without more information, we had a semi-lockdown. Teachers closed windows and doors," Dackin said. Later, the school received word that police had investigated the individual and determined that there was no threat, he said. School resumed as usual.
