AMHERST, N.H. -- Two people were killed in a six-car collision on Route 101 Wednesday night, police said.

Officials said the collision happened at about 9:55 p.m. where Route 101 passes over Route 122.

Police said a Corvette speeding eastbound crossed over the highway and struck several westbound vehicles. Authorities said the vehicle that caused the crash had been involved in a short police pursuit earlier near the Milford town line.

A Milford police officer had pulled the Corvette to issue a speeding citation, but the car took off after stopping, police said. The officer broke off pursuit when he couldn't keep the car in sight.

The officer then came across the crash scene at the Route 122 exit.

Police said that two occupants of the Corvette -- Raymond Perreault, 26, of Mont Vernon, N.H., and Patrick Kelly, 21, of Amherst, N.H. -- were killed. Police said they were still investigating to determine who was driving.

The driver of a Jeep Cherokee involved in the collision, Kerstin Strand, 35, of Milford, was seriously injured and transported to Lahey Clinic. Four other people involved in the collision were not injured.

Investigators said that it appeared that the Corvette crossed the center line of Route 101 and sideswiped another vehicle before hitting the Jeep Cherokee. The Corvette then rear-ended a Honda Accord, and the two occupants of the Corvette were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The Corvette then struck an Audi traveling the other direction, and both cars burst into flames.

Route 101 between Route 122 and Route 101A was shut down for at least four hours overnight while investigators reconstructed the scene. The highway was reopened at about 4 a.m.

Police said the investigation was continuing, and anyone with information was asked to call Trooper Scott Tracy at 603-673-3333.
