While he was leaving, Mr. Benson said, Ms. Souza attempted to pull a gun from the drawer. He took the gun and handed it to another person in the house. When Mr. Benson went outside, police said Ms. Souza charged at him with a knife and stabbed him in the chest.
Ms. Souza was charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and carrying a firearm without a license.
Police found the firearm in possession of Regina Swartz, 35, who lives next store at 13 Penikese St. According to police Lt. Irving Wallace, police found the firearm in her pocketbook. She was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and accessory after the fact.
