Reports of gunfire lock down school
By O’Ryan Johnson
Saturday, April 14, 2007

The JFK Elementary School in Jamaica Plain was locked down yesterday when officers responded to a call for shots fired in the area, but after a lengthy search they found no shell casings, school officials said.
Boston Public Schools spokesman Jonathan Palumbo said the 384 kindergarten through fifth-grade students were locked down from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
At about 10:45 a.m. in Mattapan, school police and Boston police K-9 units, responding to a tip, found a .25-caliber firearm in a field near the Mildred Avenue Middle School. School officials had confiscated a student’s cell phone and intercepted a text message that said “I need a hammer” - a gun - to take care of a problem, a police source said.

Maybe he had a nail stuck in his shoe? Doubt it.

But don't worry, your kids are safe in the schools because Boston Public Schools said that there are no problems. Gun in/near an elementary school that's just plain old scary. That translates into a problem no matter how you slice it.
