Hudson man faces child-sex charges after 'Dateline' sting The Lowell Sun Article Launched: 04/12/2007 11:56:47 AM EDT
HUDSON, N.H. -- A 46-year-old Hudson man is facing child-sex charges, after he was nabbed last month in Walpole as part of the television show Dateline's Internet sexual-predator sting, according to published reports. John Trant Jr., of Chalifoux Road, was arrested in the North Meadows Plaza on March 4. He was found with condoms and a birthday cake for an allegedly sexual meeting with a girl about to celebrate her 14th birthday, according to reports. Trant was unaware that he had been talking online with a volunteer from Perverted Justice, a national group that pretends to be children in online chatrooms for the NBC television show, To Catch a Predator. Walpole police allege that when Trant was arrested he claimed he arranged the meeting to warn the girl about chatting online with strangers. Although Trant, a Nashua real-estate agent, was charged with attempted felonious sexual assault, computer pornography and child-exploitation prevention, his arrest was not caught by the television cameras as part of the show. Trant is scheduled for a May 30 probable-cause hearing in Keene District Court, pending a possible grand jury indictment.
