SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS(WWLP) - More than 2 dozen Springfield Police dispatchers and 9-1-1 call takers were honored Thursday for their hard work. More than 2 dozen Springfield Police dispatchers and 9-1-1 call takers were honored Thursday for their hard work. The men and women are key when it comes to responding to emergencies. For the first time ever, their efforts are being recognized. This is part of telecommunication appreciation day. One police dispatcher tells 22news about the challenges they face every day. Springfield Police Dispatcher Brenda Walker tells 22News, "it's good that its recognized and the public can sometimes be very demanding and some of the stresses are extreme, but with great co-workers we manage to pull through."
