(WBZ)WESTMINSTER Police are looking for the thieves who stole $15,000 worth of copper items from the Wachusett Brewery. Four dozen empty beer kegs were also taken.
Most of the copper pieces were part of an onion-domed brewhouse the owners had planned to refurbish and install later this year.
The largest item taken was a twelve-foot long flue stack, weighing approximately 400 lbs. Four sliding doors and a handful of brass or bronze slotted plates are also missing.
The stolen items were stored in large metal, locked storage containers. Police say the suspects used a pipe cutting tool to break the locks.
Investigators believe the theft took place within the last 2-3 weeks.
Wachusett had planned to have the copper brewhouse up and running by this summer. That's probably delayed by about six months because of the theft.
Ned LaFortune, president of Wachusett Brewing, says the stolen copper compenents are worth far less for salvage than they are to his brewery.
LaFortune says if the copper parts are returned, there'll be no questions asked.
