NEW BEDFORD — Two men wearing ski masks robbed a North End fish market at gunpoint yesterday at 11:30 a.m.
The men appeared to be teenagers or in their 20s and wore baggy jeans, sweatshirts and sneakers, said Wendy Melo, an employee of the Family Fish Market at 60 Madeira Ave.
One man held a long-barreled gun at his side, Ms. Melo said, while the other put a nylon bag on the counter and told her to fill it with money.
"I put $20 or $30 in the bag," she said.
A female customer entered the store during the robbery.
The robbers left the store immediately and ran through the neighborhood in different directions.
The fish market, which has been in business for two years, was robbed last fall, Ms. Melo said.
"Here we go again," she said. "Obviously the system isn't working. The gangsta stuff is not cool. New Bedford doesn't quite have a grip on what's going on with its youth."
