WBZ)CONCORD, N.H. The Attorney General's office in New Hampshire is warning lottery winners about a potential scam.
A number of people who won a 2005 instant scratch game, whose names and addresses were posted on the state's web site, have received a call from a person claiming to be a lottery representative.
The caller tells the winners they've won an additional $23,600. In each case, the caller eventually hung up before soliciting money from the winners.
“Be particularly skeptical if you receive an unsolicited call saying you have won something, that's a red flag for a scam,” warns Attorney General Kelly Ayotte.
Ayotte says there are currently a variety of lottery scams, of which many ask unsuspecting people to pay money in order to collect a prize.
Anyone with questions about a suspicious call, mail or e-mail can call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 603.271.3543 or 1.888.468.4454 or visit www.doj.nh.gov.
