Officer injured pursuing stolen truck


BOSTON -- A suspect is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase.
The pursuit began in Jamaica Plain after the suspect stole a flatbed truck from Shattuck Hospital on Morton Street.

The chase wound through the American Legion Highway, during which the driver of the reported stolen vehicle allegedly tried to run down several officers.

Police deployed stop sticks and were finally able halt the truck at Ceylon and Columbia Roads in Roxbury.

One officer was injured during the pursuit and taken to the hospital

Heard some of that chase on area wide 3 while at work and it didn't sound good nice work by all involved on getting him stopped

Tow Truck Crashes After Police Chase In Boston

(WBZ) BOSTON A Brockton man is facing more than a dozen charges folllowing a wild police chase in Boston which resembled a demolition derby.

Marcus Harris, 22, allegedly stole a flatbed tow truck and hit several cars, including a State Police cruiser. Police used "stop-sticks" to bring the truck to a halt on Columbia Road and Ceylon Street.

Stanley Towing told WBZ their truck was stolen from outside a Dunkin' Donuts around 9:30 a.m.

Trooper William McSweeney spotted the stolen truck in Dorchester a short time later and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Investigators say Harris backed the tow truck into McSweeney's cruiser and took off.

The tow truck collided with three vehicles during the chase, injuring three people.

Zakiah Williams, 22, of Mattapan, was transported to Carney Hospital with minor injuries; Darryl Simpson, 19, of Dorchester, was taken to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries, and Jonathan Hicks was taken to Faulkner Hospital with minor injuries.

Harris is facing several charges; two counts of assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, three counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for a police officer, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operating to endanger, speeding, marked lanes violation and red light violation.

Harris is being held at the State Police barracks in South Boston and is due to be arraigned Wednesday in Dorchester District Court.

The chase ended on Columbia Road in Dorchester.

Hmmmmm...funny that the media neglected to report that Trooper McSweeney was working a PAID DETAIL when he saw this vehicle and GAVE chase. Im sure a flag man would have done the same

Not true.

The flagman would have done one of those special waves with his flags like they do when they stop 747's on the tarmac.

A lousy flatbed would have been a piece of cake.

(even flagmen have their share of whackers)
