PROVIDENCE -- A corrections officer was arrested Friday on charges of cocaine possession.
State police said 46-year-old Dante Pignitore, of North Kingstown, after they received information he was trying to buy drugs in Providence.
When detectives approached his car, police said Pignitore tried to run away and rammed his car into an unmarked state police cruiser with an officer inside.
Corrections Department spokeswoman Tracey Poole said Pignitore posted $50,000 bail and was placed on paid administrative leave pending a hearing.
She said he doesn’t represent the 1,500 and women who work at the department.
A spokesman for the corrections officers' union did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
