WEST SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - A man from West Springfield is lucky to be alive after splitting his car in two. West Springfield Police Officer Brian Duffy said that an illegal race on Amostown Road between two men went wrong when one of the drivers lost control and slammed into a utility pole, and then a tree.
Officer Duffy said a witness told the police that 21-year-old Benjamin Catellier was illegally racing another driver. He is at Baystate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still searching for the other suspected driver. Officer Duffy added that numerous charges are expected in the accident.
