QUINCY - A North Quincy High School student whose promotional bags touched off a bomb scare in Newton this morning said she had nothing to do with it.

Newton police and the State Police bomb squad used a robot to remove four black bags stuffed with newspaper and emblazoned with the emblem of the Web site www.b4class.com that had been hanging from trees and fences outside of Newton North High School. The bags were filled with shredded newspaper.

‘‘On the surface, it appears to be a marketing strategy,’’ said Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker.

But Sofia Loginova, 17, the founder of the Web site, said she first found out about the stunt when she was pulled out of class by Quincy police at about 9 a.m. today and asked about it. She is a senior on the honor roll at the school.

‘‘That’s all I know,’’ she said. ‘‘(Other) people are keeping me informed.’’

Loginova said she had been handing out black backpacks all weekend touting her Web site, which is a social networking site similar to MySpace or Facebook. Her site offers free test preparation help in addition to blogs, video and music.

Loginova emigrated from Russia with her family in 1999 and now lives in the Houghs Neck section of Quincy.

Apotheker said police are still investigating and have spoken with ‘‘somebody’’ about the bags left at the high school, which were reported by someone walking into the school at about 6:30 a.m.
He said that part of the investigation will focus on what the intent of the person who left the bags in the area was. He said the intent would play a large part in whether any criminal charges are pressed.
