Boston police have arrested a 17-year-old Jamaica Plain youth in the fatal shooting of another teenager, officials said yesterday.
Enrique Baez was charged with manslaughter, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers, police said yesterday.
Police declined to say why Baez was charged with the death of the 19-year-old, who was not identified.
Eddy Chrispin, a spokesman for the Boston Police Department, declined to say whether more people might be arrested in the shooting.
"At this point, he's the only person arrested," he said. "It's an ongoing investigation."
Asked why Baez was charged with manslaughter and not homicide, Chrispin said, "I don't have enough information to elaborate."
The shooting occurred about 5:13 a.m. yesterday at 3146 Washington St., a three-story, beige brick apartment building on a busy commercial and residential street.
The victim was pronounced dead at Faulkner Hospital.
Late last night, the building was still cordoned off with police tape. A police cruiser was parked outside.
