One woman died and six others were injuredafter an Easter Sunday crash in Milton that involved two families, both apparently on the way home from Easter celebrations.
Witnesses said it appeared that the driver of a 2001 Kia Rio headed north on Truman Highway at about 3:20 p.m. lost control before the car jumped a grassy median, flipped over and hit a 2002 Mercedes ML500 SUV on the southbound side. A female passenger in the Rio was killed. The driver and a boy, 8, were taken to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.
Maria Salmon of Dorchester said she heard the crash and came upon the scene seconds after it happened. She said a little boy, dressed in a navy suit and sky blue shirt, was bleeding from his head.
“I knelt down beside him. I just started praying,” she said.
The crash involved two families, both dressed in their Easter best, according to witnesses.
The Mercedes, driven by Jean Prosper, 48, of Hyde Park received heavy front-end damage. State police said Prosper sustained minor injuries, while his three passengers were seriously injured. Trosper was taken to Boston Medical Center. A 15-year-old boy was taken to Boston Medical Center, a 12-year-old boy was brought to Children’s Hospital and a woman was transported to Beth Israel Hospital. All were wearing seatbelts, while it is unclear whether passengers in the Kia Rio were strapped in, state police said. The Kia, carrying a young boy and two women, was destroyed.
