Two police officers from two different departments were hurt Thursday morning in separate traffic accidents.
An Arvada police officer was on his motorcycle when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Wadsworth Boulevard and West 52nd Avenue at about 10:20 a.m.
The officer, identified as David Cantrell, was coherent after the accident and taken to St. Anthony's Central Hospital.
The 23-year veteran of the department was enroute to help another officer, who had pulled over a driver of a stolen vehicle. Cantrell had his lights and siren on when he was hit by the SUV. He was thrown off his bike and suffered multiple fractures, police said.
Police said other cars had yielded to the officer but the SUV driver did not. Charges are pending against the driver of the SUV, Arvada police said.
The accident caused police to close northbound Wadsworth Boulevard at Interstate 70 and 52nd Avenue in both directions, resulting in big traffic delays.
Meanwhile, a Denver police officer was also hurt Thursday morning when his undercover car was struck from behind at Alameda and Downing. The officer was taken to Denver Health to be checked out. His injuries were minor.
