Police were piecing together details Wednesday about how an off-duty law enforcement officer allegedly shot a man to death in her Roseville home late Tuesday. Authorities said the Sacramento County sheriff's deputy, who lives at the Sierra Gardens Drive house where the shooting took place, may have been the victim of a sexual assault. Police said information is still sketchy, but they were told that the deputy returned home to find a male intruder in her bedroom. A struggle ensued and the deputy then shot and killed the intruder, police said. Two or three gunshots were fired, with two of the shots hitting the man in the head. On Wednesday, some neighbors questioned that account, stating that they never heard any gunshots. "We never heard a thing," said neighbor Charles Rachoff, adding that his windows were open at the time the alleged attack occurred. But Jerry Wernli of the Roseville Police Department said the man could have been shot in a way in which the shots were not heard by neighbors. Police also did not release the name of the man who died.
