Anybody have experience with new 911 machines? Actually using them in your agency, not just the class. I was wondering if you can still answer multiple calls at the same time with efficiency or if it becomes more of a pain in the ass.

I also heard that there are 2 19" monitors that come with it, and a lot of people are having trouble fitting them into their dispatch centers, especially the older ones.

And what's up with the headset? do you have to use it?

We've had them for a week now - no major problems, just takes getting used to. I think that once you become proficient with it, the new equipment is much better than the old. The monitors are large and there are two for each APU. We didn't have room, so we purchased mounting brackets and stacked the two monitors on top of each other - worked out nicely. You do not have to use a headset. Be advised though that there is extra "equipment" that you must put on the desk somewhere accessible. This includes a large phone. It can get somewhat cluttered. Hope that helps.

We've had it for almost a year now, there is some great features the the New VESTA System has and once you get used to it, It's actualy a lot better then the old system.

We have had ours since late December and they are nothing but junk. We only have two positions being a small dept. It seems that one of them never works right, and the new CCC from verizon will always send someone out who jiggles the wires but in a couple of days the same crap.
As far as the GPS and mapping software its great. We've been able to use the GPS coordinates on a couple of search and rescues and have had great success.

What is a "911 machine"? Are you talking about a new phone system your agency recently got?

We have had Vesta for about 2 years now and it's great. Two monitors are optional for that system, it fits on 1 screen fine. I do wish they would have gone with touch screens for that just like they did for our radio system.

Answering multiple calls is not a problem, we can use hold just as easy as we could before so we can prioritize the calls.

We are all required to use a headset per policy, I don't think I could (and wouldn't want to) do this job having to use my hand to grab a actual handset and then have to cradle it somehow. It's bad enough I have to use my hands at home to answer the phone. lol
