Opinions and Recomendations for Duty Belt

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Just need some advice from some experienced folks....

Well, I am in the Plymouth Reserve/Intermittent academy right now and we need to qualify with our duty weapon before graduation as a requirement. I am searching ebay right now for the basic duty belt, used if in good condition, with all the attachments that I will need on it and I have found a few, but as I really dont know what I am looking at I wanted some other opinions. I have a Glock 22, and after the duty belt I will need the Cuffs, OC, Baton, Etc. to fill it, so any Recomendations for a place on the South Shore would be welcome.

Here are the ebay links for what I was looking at, let me know if I would be getting gypped in your opinion or if any of these are a deal. Thanks in advance for the help folks.

The links say that the auctions have been removed... probably with good reason.

Equipment is expensive, make no mistake about that. Part of what you wear depends on your department's uniform requirements, and if they are relaxed about it then the other part is your personal preference.

I think all police supply stores are about the same, IMO.

thats weird, they shouldnt be cancelled, they are still showing up for me, let me repost the links.

The only thing I would recommend is that you don't "go cheap" on your holster.

No, I figured, since there are 3 other people in the academy for my town, whatever I have extra I can give to them, as they will need theres to, so I am not afraid to buy a big lot for a good price. I just dont want to spend alot of cash and then have to replace it in a year.

Make sure you check with the town first. Alot of departments are uniform right down to the duty gear you can carry.

I checked with my Sgt., and since we are reserves he said that it doesnt have to be specific, just has to contain O.C, Holster, 2 Mag pouches, Baton, Cuffs, Radio, and Gloves.

maybe get what the regulars have to blend in or have a regulation belt broken in by the time you go full time

the soft nylon can get beat up after awhile. you can hit it with a lighter to clean up the fraying ends.

the leather holds up better and comes back with some polish.

Jake,

Talk to some guys that are already on. Get what the full-time guys have. No sense in buying stuff now that you can't use when and if you get on full-time. Plus you'll blend in a little better.

Posted by: TacOps

I wouldn't buy it from eBay. Go to a store and look at the stuff yourself. Ballistic Solutions in Bourne may be a possibility if you're near the Cape. www.police-fire-gear.com

Thats a bit far for me, I was going to try Doughboy in Weymouth if I couldnt find something decent that was used. I wanted to see if I could find something used first because I am trying to avoid spending a ton of cash, as the academy itself is already put a strain on the wallet, as well as the pistol I just bought.

AAA in Dedham has a used bin , but you'll have to go there and dig around.

stuff is hit or miss

jakedodge doughboy is no longer in weymouth, you can try the following stores for your equipment-
doughboy which is in rockland and kingston
andreas police supply, quincy ave quincy ma
AAA on rt 1 in dedham next to the movie theater
mhq supply in west roxbury

its a toss up on which is the cheapest, everyone will tell you a different story, if you are going to work for pcsd then go to doughboy in kingston, they deal directly and have everything you need for pcsd so it is easier, if your working for a dept ask them where they have an account through and then go to that store, they will most likely deal with a local store and they might help you out if you tel them what town your working for. I dont know what they will do but I guess its worth a shot.

What kinda gun you got?

Posted by: HELPMe

I didnt know that was a requirement of the R/I academy. When i went through mine it was all classroom instruction with some DT thrown in. I didnt think any academy did ok/baton anymore never mind firearms quals. I would think that would be through your own department anyway not the R/I academy. Most departments have a weapons officer that is usually incharge of the quals and certs.

Posted by: pahapoika

the last R/I academy i went through trained locals and deputies with o/c and baton.

deputies qualified with Plymouth in their own mobile range and i believe the mobile range is available to local PD's as well .

Posted by: JakeDodge

Yeah, they told us it was fairly new in Plymouth, but a must for graduation.

Anyway, I bought a belt, so the thread is pretty much nil now if someone wants to close it. Thanks for the reccomendations and the healthy dose of sarcasm!
