I have an interview Monday with Groton PD. Can anyone please give me some information that may help? Or does anyone know anything good or bad about the PD?

My advice is know the following....
How many residents they have
How many man department sgt, lt, etc.
Population
What drew you to the town?
Why you chose them to apply to?
Thats just a few, most interviews usually ask those standard questions, I made a fool out of myself about 5 years ago and when they asked those questions I was a deer in headlights. Also if its a small town make sure you tell them you like the small town life because you can interact with the people and really provide community policing, they like to hear that stuff. Knowing the information that 7mpoc supplied is important in a small town.. but you should also be prepared for questions such as: " What specail skills, experience, training do you have that would make you an asset to this community", "What does being a police officer mean to you", " In your opinion what does a police officer do"..
They sound like easy questions to answer... but don't jump at them, take the time to think about them. They want to hear answers that put you apart from the rest. Small towns = Community involvement. Focus your answers to what you can contribute to a community and what you have done prior for communities.
I went for a small town and was interviewed with these questions. When I spoke with the Detectives after they told me that they always look for community oriented people... Too bad they didn't have funding to hire .... instead they laid guys off...

Stay away, 45 officers left in last 9 years. Some bad history there from years ago.

Most people are prepared to talk themselves up during an interview. The chief of one department that I applied to asked me about my flaws. Fortunately, a friend had advised me to expect this. You don't have to necessarily point out any serious flaws, just say things like: "I can't type." or "I drink way too much coffee."

Excellent points ranger and jeep, you are so right about "flaws and strong points" When I interviewed I said my week points were I trust people to easy and Im always willing to see the good in people, that can be a flaw because people can take advantage of you. As far as strengths, good communication, able to listen and follow orders from supervisors. Years later my Lt. told me that was the best answer they had heard through out the interviews, feel free and use it, it worked for me.

Yes, you do want to "sell yourself" (talk yourself up a bit) but you also want to demonstrate what you can do for the team. Team related responses earn good points, it not just about you, its about how you can benefit the department in whole. Becareful not to look stuck up on yourself or all high and mighty. Be a team player.
