SALEM - A Franklin woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy at the Beverly group home where she worked as a counselor had her case continued to early May during a pretrial conference in Essex Superior Court yesterday. Emma Miles, 34, is charged with three counts of statutory rape for allegedly having sex with the teenager at the now-defunct Anchorage House in Beverly during an affair that ended in July 2005.
At the pretrial conference yesterday, court-appointed defense attorney Julie Buszuwski asked that the case be continued to May 7 for a non-evidentiary hearing.
Miles, of 25 Cooper Drive, who was dressed in black pants, a black shirt and wore black-rimmed glasses, did not address the court.
After the hearing, she declined comment on the case, saying, "I'm all set. Thank you." Buszuwski also declined to comment.
Miles was working as an overnight counselor at the Anchorage House when she came onto the then-15-year-old boy in his room after another counselor, identified in the police report as "Linda," called out sick, according to police.
The boy told police he and Miles had sex in his room that night and continued to rendezvous over the next few months.
The alleged victim told police Miles would call his cell phone and ask if he wanted to "go out," at which point he would leave the home, followed later by Miles. She would pick him up and drive to Lynch Park in Beverly, where she performed oral sex on him in the car, according to the police report.
Miles allegedly told the boy "not to tell anybody," and the boy said several other members of the home knew he and Miles were having sex, according to the police report.
