NHSP dispatcher questions

Hi Group-

I'm a 25-year veteran Police/Fire/EMS dispatcher currently working in the Boston area. I hold all customary professional certifications, as well as EMT-D.

At present, I live within driving distance to several NHSP locations, including Keene & Concord. My current long commute to Boston, the state of MA politics and ever-increasing taxes here have made me look at other states in which to use my skills. The savings realized by moving to and working in the Granite State are not inconsequential, and would nearly balance the pay disparity I would encounter in any such move.

Are there any current NHSP dispatchers on the board willing to give me some advice on "the process", career ladder, and pay/benefits info? Especially, do dispatchers contribute to their health/dental insurance, or does the state pay 100%, as they do for Troopers?

I am interested in Radio Dispatching from one of the various Troop sites, not E-9-1-1 call-taking at the Concord hub.

The balance of no sales tax, lower car insurance and relatively lower home prices vs. higher property taxes "works" for me, and I would be relocating to NH if successful. How hard-to-staff, or desirable, are the more rural area barracks like Twin Mountain and northwest NH? After a working lifetime of being a "city kid", the rural areas appeal to me greatly. I understand some of the more rural barracks also dispatch for area towns PD/FD/EMS.

I've enough time in my present retirement system to "park" it until I reach 55-60 and get a nice monthly payout. Optionally, does NH allow rollovers from out-of-state retirement systems into their own? Failing that, how many years to reach "vested" status in NH?

TIA

Sean

All of your New Hampshire Retirement System questions can be answered on their website. As a dispatcher you would fall under the group I class. Police and Firefighters are Group II employees.
