Elbert County sheriff's deputies are looking for a 25-year-old man who allegedly abducted his girlfriend's son while trying to flee from deputies, triggering an Amber Alert.
The boy was found safe Sunday evening.
The Elbert County Sheriff's Office said Bryant Hall was under arrest and in handcuffs when he took off running away from the arresting officer Sunday afternoon.
Hall then saw his girlfriend's sister's car and realized his girlfriend's son was inside, police said. That's when Hall jumped into the red Pontiac Grand Am with the 8-year-old boy and refused to let the child out, police said.
Hall had managed somehow to slip his arms over his body so that his handcuffed hands were in front of him and he was able to drive away with the boy inside, authorities said.
Hall headed away from the town of Elbert and toward Elizabeth. Officers pursued the vehicle at first but stopped because the child was in the car and they feared for the boy's safety.
An Amber Alert was issued after the incident, which occurred just after 3 p.m.
More than five hours later, Hall dropped the boy and the Grand Am at a friend's house and that friend took the boy to the sheriff's office. The boy was reunited with his mother Sunday night.
Deputies are still searching for Hall, who has a parole violation warrant out of California and is considered armed and dangerous.
He is described as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has short, shaved black hair, brown eyes and two tattoos on the corner of his left and right eyes.
Hall was last seen wearing black sweats, a white shirt and black tennis shoes.
