An alleged beauty shop burglar led officers on a chase before he was pulled from a hiding place in a pond, authorities said.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of a Miamitown Wendys for having a concealed license plate, authorities said.
William Turner, 32, of Hamilton, got out of his vehicle and handed over his keys before assaulting Officer Craig Nance of Hamilton County Sheriffs Department, police said.
Turner fled on foot to a home on East Mill Street and stole a van whose keys had been left in the ignition, officers said.
Officers said they pursued Turner on northbound State Route 128 before he crashed the van into a guard rail in Ross Township.
Turner again fled on foot, and officers said they found him hiding in a nearby pond and pulled out without a struggle.
Police said Turner had broken into The Head Shop in Colerain Township before his initial traffic stop.
He is charged with breaking and entering, theft of a motor vehicle, failure to comply, assault on a police officer, possession of criminal tools and numerous traffic offense, police said.
