CONCORD, N.H. -- Federal prosecutors said that an alleged drug dealer from Wilton got away with his crimes for at least two years partially because the town's former police chief was one of his customers. Jonathan Platte is on trial in federal court in Concord, charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin, and using a firearm during drug trafficking. In opening arguments Tuesday, the prosecutor said the dealing occurred out of the Platte family home, with help from Platte's parents. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terry Ollila told the jury that Platte routinely hosted former police Chief Robert Maguire for dinner and that Maquire got drugs from him. She said the operation began to collapse when Maguire was fired in late 2003. Platte's lawyer, Paul Garrity, told the jury that Platte had been a drug addict, which stemmed from a medical problem, but not a drug dealer.
