WESTPORT — Police arrested a man believed to be connected to a melee last week and also recovered shotgun and ammunition following the execution of search warrants yesterday. The fight involved about 20 youths and it was reported that one of the males had fired a handgun at two other males during the melee that also involved the use of baseball bats and pipes. At the time, police found a spent .45 caliber shell casing. After a search at 30 Ruby Court in Dartmouth yesterday, police located .22 caliber ammunition, a shotgun shell and a .22 caliber rifle with a sawed off handle. The riffle had a defaced serial number. The search had focused on finding a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was used during the fight in Westport last Thursday. That weapon wasn’t recovered. Shortly after, New Bedford police arrested Sean E. Lague on warrant. He was not home at the time of the initial search. Mr. Lague, 17, is being held on $25,000 cash bail and is expected to be arraigned today in Fall River district court. Police have charged him with carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, disturbing the peace while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit the disturbance while armed. Wesport police also are seeking arrest warrants for two other males in relation to the items discovered during the search warrant. Three other alleged participants in the fight will also be criminally charged.
