Has any department received any money from the state for replacement of body armor? I believe money ($5,000,000) was appropriated last fall for replacement of all body armor more than 5 years old. I checked with my bosses and the word they are putting out is that the money is being held up at EOPS. Whatever the story, most of our PD is walking around with expired body armor and new personnel are being issued vests from guys that have left the job (needless to say, and at the least, proper fit is an issue). I figure if our new governor has money appropriated for caddies and flight lessons, that he could see to it to properly outfit those protecting him. If the money is there and just being "held up", what is the issue? Any word on this would be greatly appreciated.
