A notorious mob hitman who is believed to have killed 20 people is ready to come home.
John Martorano has rejected an offer to join the witness protection program and his brother tells the Boston Globe that Martorano will instead return to the Boston-area when his federal prison sentence ends later this week.
Martorano spent just over 12 years in federal prison under a plea deal after becoming a government witness in the pursuit of Boston mob bosses James "Whitey" Bulger and Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi.
His decision to return to Boston has outraged the families of some of his victims.
But James Martarano says his 66-year-old brother just wants to "keep his head down" and get on with his life.
Bulger remains a fugitive while Flemmi is serving a life sentence in prison.

Hit man refuses witness protection deal, going home
BOSTON — Admitted mob hit man turned government witness John Martorano has rejected an offer to join the witness protection program and will instead return to the Boston area when he is released from federal prison this week, his brother says.
His decision, however, is upsetting the relatives and lawyers for the families of his victims.
Martorano, 66, is scheduled to be released tomorrow after spending just over 12 years in federal prison after becoming a government witness in the pursuit of mob bosses James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi and their corrupt FBI handlers.
“He just wants to keep his head down and be quiet and just get on with his life,” James Martorano, John Martorano’s brother, told The Boston Globe.
